first do
Code:
rpm -q gcc
to find out the version (suppose gcc-4.0.x)
then
Code:
rpm -e gcc-4.0.x
should remove the package

download rpm file for gcc-3.x.x and do
Code:
rpm -ivh gcc-3.x.x.rpm
as root to install it.

you could also download the rpm for gcc 3.0.0 first and install it using the --oldpackage switch to rpm to allow you to "upgrade" to an older version. check out man rpm or rpm ---help for more details
