How to tell mplayer to use diff alsa channel?

When I open a video in mplayer, I hear those famous (and annoying) crackling sounds, apparently alsa-related. But in xmms I configured to use "hw:0,1" (whatever it is...) and it plays fine. So, I have to do the same thing in mplayer. I tried alsaconf and it worked, but it messed playback in my tv card capture.
Can someone help me?
Thanks!

it's all in the manpage...

-ao alsa:device=hw=0.1

you may well be better off fixing the underlying alsa defaults rather than forcin non-default options in each app though, normally alsa configs are in /etc/asound.conf
