how to start kde


i had install Xfree in redhat Os .. but

if i write startx .. X server is running properly but the kde or gnome not start ..

Do you have kde installed? TO start kde, the command is 'startkde'

To specify the default desktop, you will need to edit /etc/sysconfig/desktop and add KDE or GNOME to the desktop line.

i'm using startkde command

it's show proplem .. that said cannot connect to X server ..

iv write startx ... x server was running .. then saw only a terminal window and some menu's ..

At your terminal window type
gedit .xinitrc

If there is anything in there, delete it
put in
startkde
or
exec gnome-session

Run xwmconfig to choose the default window manager (you sound like your using something other than kde). Then run startx.

can't use xwmconfig coz the problem in redhat .. kde cannot start after reinstall xfree ..

how to start kde or gnome after reinstall xfree .. i use redhat 9 ..
