How to Specify Running Time of a Background Process in a Bash Script

2016-01-03

I am interested in knowing how to specify the amount of time I want a background
program to run in a bash script. As an example, I would like to tell cvlc to play
only the first minute of an mp3 file and bash to terminate the script afterwards.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Everyone,

This thread of mine was accidentally posted before I could edit and finalize it. Now I've no control over it. How can I delete it?
I've just solved the problem under consideration by using the run-time and play-and-exit options of VLC.

You can't delete it.
You can edit it. Go to the first post and hit the edit button.
Edit, hit "save", or "post" and ta da.

And/or use the "Thread Tools" drop-down menu near the top of the opening post.
Mark thread as Solved... or similar.

Habitual,

Thanks very much. With your advice, I finally managed to clean up my initial post, via 'Go Advanced'.
