how to shut downd X server from X server?

Hi!
I wan't to install NVIDIA driver in Linux. I tried to run installer from X server but
message appears that I should shut down X server. How can I do it?. If I tick off option
in Configure section so I don't run X server on the start up I can install the driver but
I cannot return to X's. When I type in 'X' in prompt line blue screen shows up and
everything hangs up. I had to install system from the scratch because of that.

I hope it will help you:
when the X server is running you can type "init 3" to shut down it and after that use "startx" to start the X server.

Don't quote me, but I think Ctrl+Alt+Backspace will kick you out of X as well. Then startx will bring you back up like the previous person said.
