How to set where a game is installed in Steam?

Is it possible in Ubuntu 14.04 to set the destination directory where the currently installed (via Steam) game is stored? Is this possible in Windows 8.1? Can I install games on NTFS from Ubuntu 14.04 Steam?

Yes, open the preferences, go to the "Downloads" section. There you can create and set the location of your Steam libraries (it is possible to have more than one). If you have more than one you can set which one to use when you download a game.

Don't know for 8.1, but works on Windows 7 without any problems.

NTFS does not support Linux/UNIX permissions, so it is likely that you will run into problems when doing that.
