Question How to set up SSH?

Hi,

I setup ProFTP. I want to enable SSH access through FTP and Telnet. How can I do it?

Do I need to download any SSH software?

Thanks

SSH is one service, FTP is another. You can't enable SSH through FTP or telnet, because they're different things. Actually, SSH is a replacement for telnet.
To enable SSH you need an ssh server and client software. You can get it from www.openssh.org. OpenSSH requires Openssl (www.openssl.org) to run.

Thanks for your advice. May I ask you whether there is any online tutorial or steps for the complete setup both of the openssl and openssh?

Should I just download OpenSSL 0.9.6e? or I need to download OpenSSL 0.9.6e [engine] ?

Do I need to download all these programs? ssh, scp, sftp, sshd, ssh-add, ssh-agent, ssh-keygen and sftp-server.

Regards

You need to download, maybe compile if there aren't any binaries for your system and install OpenSSL.

ssh, scp, sftp, sshd, ssh-add, ssh-agent, ssh-keygen and sftp-server are all part of the OpenSSH (or SSH, if you prefer) suite, so download, compile if it's the source distribution, and install OpenSSH.

Step-by-step instructions (if you download the source distribution):

1. tar xzf open[ssh|ssl]*.tar.gz
2. cd open[ssh|ssl]*
3. ./configure
4. make
5. make install

Make sure you install OpenSSL first.
