How to set OpenOffice default browser?
 

Hi.

I've googled a lot about this issue but haven't found a solution.

I installed google-chrome and configured it as my default browser in my desktop "Preferred applications" configuration app, and in update-alternatives --config x-www-browser. I also exported the BROWSER variable to be = /opt/google/chrome/google-chrome (logged out and then logged in again).

Although, If I open a XLS file with some links inside (OpenOffice 3.2.0) it opens links in firefox instead of google chrome.
I surfed across all options in Tools->Options and there is nothing to set or change the default browser.

Has anyone has come across this issue?

I do not have the answer for you, but I suspect nobody has replied to your question because you have not supplied sufficient information for anybody to answer it.

Please consider that the different distros of linux, and the different desktops (KDE, gnome, xfce ...) all handle "Preferred browser" differently.

Such is the joy of linux, (but it's also one of the reasons it's very difficult to write a virus /trojan for linux, be happy, for now).

So, please post further details of your linux configuration, and I expect someone will help you further.

Off-Topic: google-chrome is possibly evil because it phones home (google). You may not want this.
chromium apparently doesn't (but I have not confirmed this, as I run neither)

I'm afraid you're right, I didn't supply enough information; my bad!

What happened was that someone sent me a Excel XLS file with some links inside. When I clicked on a link, it was opened in Firefox instead in Google Chrome.

I checked in my distro for the "Default Browser" configuration and found that Google Chrome was set as the default browser for all (in my xfce "preferred applications", in update-alternatives, and also created the BROWSER environment variable).

After this, my suspicion was that this had to be configured inside OpenOffice, so I surfed accross all OpenOffice options and never had the infamous "Set default browser" option.

Minutes ago I found that this is possible (at least with my configuration) only through a OpenOffice extension called DefaultBrowser, I just installed it and worked like a charm.
