How to run sqlplus?

I have installed oracle 9i R2 on RH 9 and after installation I found that there were no short cuts created on the desktop. So I am trying to run the sqlplus from the terminal window and it is giving message --bash: sqlplus: command not found

The command I am using,
[oracle@redhat bin]$ sqlplus / nolog

Here I want to know that as this files exists to how I can run and login into to sqlplus?

Secondly how to create short cuts of these installed products?

to be able to run sqlplus the way you described above, you will need to add that bin directory to your PATH,

e.g. PATH = $PATH:$ORACLE_HOME/bin; export PATH

or, if you are in oracle's bin directory, you can try running it like this:

./sqlplus /nolog

I have also corrected the path "$ORACLE_HOME/bin" in the .bash_profile and now even sqlplus is working instead of ./sqlplus.

But still I am searching for how to create short cuts on desktop.

which desktop are you using ? GNOME ?

if you want a Desktop shortcut on GNOME, you can just right-click on the desktop and choose "New Launcher"

Gr8 Jalal you are really Jalal..............One more think I must share with all others that you have to check "Run in Terminal" for softs like sqlplus otherwise shortcut will not work.

One more question is that how to change the properties of the shortcut after creation as at the moment I am only able to change the icon but I want to change the path or appl name as well. I am moving the shortcut to trash and recreating it.......but some extra steps envolve in this procedure.
