How to run sound drivers as root?

When I boot up into my default account, I get an error message that says something to the effect of 'Alsa drivers cannot be run in realtime priority. Run it as root. Otherwise the sound may have pops and cracks."

I understand that this has been a problem with linux in the past. How do I go about configuring the sound driver to run as root? I have Mandrake 9.1. Thanks in advance.

Please gear any responses to a newbie skill-level. Thanks.
