how to run KDE without firt running standard window menager... xfree config....


i have installed xfree86 on my gentoo
i configured it..

but when i:

# startx

there starts simple window menager... but i want KDE!!

so when i:

# startkde

i see error that it cant connect to X server...

so i do that:

# startx

then (in the xterm on y default window menager) i

# startkde

but kde is loading into window of my basic window menager...

what i should change and where to make KDE my basic window menager ?

hi,
just edit /etc/rc.conf so it contains DISPLAYMANAGER=kdm, instead of DISPLAYMANAGER=xdm
if you want X to start up when computer boot, then run rc-update add xdm default
