How to resolve automount issue in KDE 3.5?

I've been using KDE 3.4 on my Mepis 3.4.3 distro. When I upgraded kdebase, I don't get to automount usb disks and ipods anymore. The disk icon on the desktop doesn't show up anymore. I am upgrading hal and see if it will work. Do you have any other suggestions? I really need your help on this. Thanks.
