How do you remove packages that doesn't have a check box next to them? I notieced that in Mandriva 2007, there are a lot of packages that have an icon with 'rpm' next to it in the list of software installed. I can't check it, so when I select it (highlight it), and select Apply, I get a message saying I need to select a package.
Is this a bug and do I have to use command line? If I use rpm -e, does that also remove it from the database or does it only un-install the software?
Any of the tools you use to manage your software in Mandriva, as in any other rpm-based distribution (well the same goes usually for any other packaging methods), use the same rpm database. This is because all of the tools need to know what the system's state is, and if one database would be older than others, it would lead to trouble. So it should not matter what tool you use, they all do the same. rpm -e works great if you can uninstall the package (if you can't, it will tell you why, and you can then work to get around the block -- maybe remove something else too).
I did:
rpm -e <name of package> --nodeps
and it looked like it uninstalled it. When I went to the Control Center, it still showed up as being installed. However, the tpm image was not there, and I could check the box to un-install it.... This doesn't make sense to me. Do you know what it means when there is a 'rpm' image next to a package? Does it mean that it is 'locked' and can't be un-installed?
Also, every time I install a new package, I get error message:
Problem suring the installation.
There was a problem during the installation: unable to remove package.
The package seems to have been installed OK though. I am running Cooker, is it possible there is a bug in the Software Management module?
I like the software management in 2006 better...
