Question how to remove installed tar files

I know that I use rpm -e to remove rpm files, but what about tar files? Is there some special command to revmove tar files or do I have to locate the directory the app was installed to and do a rmdir? Sorry for the "basic" question, but I'm still learning this stuff.
I'm basically trying to uninstall and reinstall another version of apache.

You can do "make uninstall" in the same directory where you did "make install".

what if you don;t have the directory where you did "make install"

You can either delete the files manually or download and rebuild the source to recreate the directory.
