How to reload the grub in Red Hat 9.0

I'm finding problem in reloading the grub in red hat 9.0. I lost grub when installing MS-XP. Actually the Linux is not able to activate the swap file. So when i try to reload the grub by booting from install disk and goto linux rescue, and type chroot /mnt/sysimage
grub-install /dev/hda,
I get a message saying that "not able to find swap file" and system reboots.

Is there anyway i can add a swap partition without loosing the existing linux installation so that i can activate that swap partition and then try installing grub?

thanks.
