ok, 1st time back on the linux box since May of last year,
sorry for the latency,
man pages show that the following will "reinitialize" the file structure,
my attempt is to get a USB drive or CDROM drive to "be seen" by the kernel, thus assigning the USB drive - /dev/hda1 or the CDROM - /dev/sr0 (serial drive) ....
the commands are:
telinit q - forces reexamination of the etc/initab file
or
telinit u - reexecutes the init (runs at boot just after kernel sequence)
but, have had no result from running them that i could "see", i run command and the #~ root path reappears momentarily, maybe it IS running but just not verbose?
