Hello,
May be this question is asked sometime before also. But I'm very much confused. I am using RHEL 4 in one of my system . Can anybody tell me how to play .wmv files in RHEL 4. When i tried to download VLC Player or mplayer I encountered with lots of rpms. I don't know which one to download and install. can anybody please guide me properly.
Thanx in advance

I use mplayer. The default package (from http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html) has the required codecs to play .wmv. Install the main source package and the codecs and give it a shot.

Hope you are familiar with compiling it (pretty straight forward if you have a stable system)

But if you do want to stick to rpm's (am on deb) picking the highest version is the best bet.

That said, I think .wmv includes quite a few variants. From my experience Mplayer does support most (all?).

You should also download mplayerplug-in if you want to enjoy streaming media from firefox.

btw, are you saying you had dependency issues? What if you used the package manager?

Setup the dag yum repo for RHEL 4 and use yum to install mplayer or vlc.
