how to play music and video in LINUX

Were going to need more than that distribution your using the version of it and what steps you have taken to try and get something to play would be a start.

Like HappyTux says, but with more words: How To Ask Questions The Smart Way. The best way to get good answers is to ask good questions. There wasn't a question in there at all.

Those problem are quite normal. Most Linux distributions come without codecs because those tend to be patented and could lead to legal issues. As a workaround, codecs are available from third party repositories. Although a few distributions (such as PCLinuxOS couldn't care less and provide the codecs directly with the system anyway).
