Question how to play .mpq files


i just tried to play one of the cinema scenes from warcraft3, and when i fire up xmovie or some other multimedia player, i get sound, but no picture. this only happens when i change the file exstention to .mpg, when i found it it was in the .mpq format. anyone know of a codec or player?

Have you tried mplayer with all the additional codecs (which can be downloaded from mplayer's website) installed? It seems to play damn near everything!

mpq files aren't really video files. They're collections of txt files, jpgs, mpgs, etc. Think of them more like id software's "wad" files, or a great big tar file. I don't know of any linux apps to extract them, but if you google for "DiabloII mpq edit" you'll definatly come up with some windows apps, possibly a linux one.
