How to play m4a and mp3 files in audacity?

I would like to know how to play mp3/m4a files in audacity.says they are unsupported formats.I know that this has to do with those being closed-source, but i have the dependencies for, say, amarok to play them. Is it possible to get them to work with audacity? If so, how?

Hi,

it's not a closed source issue - free mp3 libraries exist - it's a patent issue.
I think you can get what you need from 3rd party repos. See:

Cheers,

Evo2.

PS. You don't state it explicitly but from your profile I'm assuming this question is in regard to a Fedora install.
