how to open kword document in microsoft

I created a document in kword. I then sent it to myself at my mailbox on my Windows system. But it will not open in anything in Windows. What to do?

Did you save the document in kword as kword's native format or as a .doc file?

I saved it as a kword document. The extension is .kwd. Should I open it in kword and resave it a differant way. Tell me the proceedure please. In Microsoft you choose what to save it as. But in kword there is a dropdown window called 'filter'. Thats new to me.

The drop down box is called filter in kword. Just open it and select .doc instead of .kwd

There is no doc in the drop down window. The closest I see is HTML, wordperfect or plain text. I am about to try them.
