how to move IMAP Maildir to new linux server

Hi,

I have two linux servers running here, both Arch linux machines. I'd like to move my IMAP mail from one server to the other.

I am using courier-imap to keep my archived email folders, I haven't actually started using it for day-to-day email use.

My question: how do I move my Maildir folder in my home directory to my other server? Can I just move the folder to the other machine and then configure IMAP? Or is it more complicated?

Thanks!
bert

If both your servers use the same format (hence Maildir), then copying the files and making sure the configuration is good, should be enough. Else, you just have to run both servers at once, connect to both using your favourite IMAP-enabled mail client, and drag-n-drop all mails from one account to the other account.

Problem moving Maildir

Hi there.

I'm trying to move mail in maildirs old server to a new one. Old server with the mail is FC1 with courier-imap 3.0.8, new server Suse 10.0 with courier-imap 4.0.4.

I tried backing up original (4.0.4)Maildir on new server, then copying the Maildir contents from old to new and then I get weird behavior from courier. My webmail client (UebiMiau, pop3 protocol) lists the messages with subjects but doesn't show any content. IMAP client (KMail) couldn't recieve any mail but after I restored the original (4.0.4)Maildir KMail showed the messages from (3.0.8) but couldn't find the other messages (which were now restored on server) until KMail had been restarted.

I've been Googling for 5 hours now without finding anything helpful, everything I find suggests that a simple copy should do the trick.

OK, I admit it, I'm a in over my head. But if anyone can guide me in the right direction I'd be a very happy NOOB.

Thx in advance

Did you try the simple drag-n-drop solution, using for example Thunderbird? You don't have to stick with it after. You can go back to your webmail when the transfer is done.

Well, the problem with that was that these were quite many accounts and not mine, so I didn't have access.
Anyway, I gave up with the changing of server software and the process of transferring mail from one qmailrocks.org setup to another was as easy as copying and chown-ing the files.

But thanks for your input.
