How to make WMP-compatible AVI's

Is there a way I can use mencoder to create AVI files that can be played out of the box by Windows Media Player? (i.e., no additional codec installation necessary on the Windows machine)

Thanks

why? just make them standard AVI files that VLC can access. WMP is a pathetic DRM riddled media player that lacks ability to play most modern media files.

now if this is for a business, then just do your video work in winXP with Adobe Premeier 6.5 and be done with it.

Because I want to, that's why. Not everyone knows how to or is able to install another media player. If your reply means "it's not possible," then just tell me that and be done with it.
