How to make USB plug and play?
I am using a laptop, so I am often changing components...My question is, how can I make it so that I can plug in my USB mouse and it starts working? At the moment I have to restart any time I add new hardware.

You shouldn't have to re-boot, I don't ;) Cheers, Tink |
is that what hotplug does, allows plug and play? I was messing around earlier trying to get a usb storage devivce working. I tried /etc/init.d/hotplug stop then /etc/init.d/hotplug start , was that unneccesary?

My bad, I am using Mandrake 9.2 w/all updates and 2.4.22-21 kernel.
Basically the "checking for new hardware" at startup is what makes the other mouse work (confirms it was added and what not) |
I also have hotplug installed (Installed with mandrake)

I don't know how mdk handles this, I'm using
http://www.dotaster.com/~shuu/linux/usbmgr/ to achieve those effects ... it's quite cool because I can also achieve auto-mounting of my cam when plugged-in and such :) Cheers, Tink |
