How to make speaker sounds at boot?

I am running RH9 server with Gnome. I have no monitor, keyboard, mouse connected, doing all administration using VNC. Because I am using VNC, I can't tell when the system is ready for a login when I restart it.

I would like to have the speaker make sounds when the system is ready for a login. I am a Linux newbie, so need somewhat specific help.

BTW, the system has sound capability, but I have no speakers hooked up, which is why I want to use the speaker.

Thanks,
Frank

You could make a file

beep.sh

with this in it

#!/bin/bash

echo -e '\007'
sleep 1
echo -e '\007'
sleep 1
echo -e '\007'
sleep 1
echo -e '\007'

chmod +x beep.sh

add to rc.local file the line

/path/to/beep.sh

This should give you 4 beeps when you've booted

Thanks Looking_Lost, I'll try that tonight.

I know there are a lot of rc. files. Is there someplace that shows which ones get processed when?

Looking_Lost,

I made my first script! And it worked! Thanks, it is just what I needed.
