How to make a bin file executable and install the prgram
Hello everyone,
I posted a little while ago a querry regarding Real one player. I downloaded the following binary file from the real player website, but I do not know how to install this program. Can anyone please guide me. Thank you.
To make it executable 'chmod u+x <filename>'
To run it './<filename>'
I hate blindly running executables on my system though. I would make sure you know and trust who you got it from and read up on what it is that it's going to do.
I have been trying to install real one player on my computer so that I can listen to streaming internet radio. I downloaded that file from real one player website. However, everytime I try to run it, it says can not execute the bin file. Do you know what is going on. I already did chmod before I tried to run it.
Just to eliminate the obvious things, you're running linux on an alpha system, right? Did you try running the binary as root? What does 'ls -l rp8_linux_alpha_rh62_cs1.bin' give you? Also what does 'file rp8_linux_alpha_rh62_cs1.bin' give you?
Hey, I'm having trouble on this... Everytime when I put the chmod command, it appears this way:
root@luigi:~# chmod u+x /home/luigi/Desktop/RealPlayer10GOLD.bin
root@luigi:~#
I guess you're new to the *nix command line. Generally when commands are succesful they don't give any output. So that's basically what's supposed to happen when you do chmod. Try to execute the file with
root@luigi:~# /home/luigi/Desktop/RealPlayer10GOLD.bin
