How to listen to .mp3 songs in Redhat 9 Linux

Hello friends,
I use Red Hat 9.0 Linux. I am unable to listen to audio songs. I tried to use 'mpg123' but it says "rate is not supported". I tried to use xmms, but it allows to only select audio files, when I select audio files and press ok, there is no sound !!
Kindly tell me as to how can I listen to songs in Linux.

Thanks,
Sreeram

I guess you need to install mp3 engine like Helix or xine which they aren't installed in Redhat.
I guess that Helix is better because it runs also .rm files.

Why simply download and install the xmms-mp3 rpm package for RHL9;

http://ftp.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrp...at/9/xmms-mp3/

Next visit; http://www.fedoralegacy.org/ and learn how to download/install yum and/or apt and bring your system current.

FYI: Red Hat ended all support for RHL9 the end of April, 2004

Youd be better off getting and installing Fedora Core 5 and getting that up to date. One way of getting MP3 support is removing the XMMS package from your system and installing it from the source code at www.xmms.org
