how to install VMware, i have 344MB file with .txt extension

Hi guys, I'm new to Linux and I downloaded on Windows the VMware install for Linux which has a .txt extension. I successfully did this on another machine the other day but I can't find the site that told me how nor can I remember how - there was something about opening a file browser with root privileges I think. How do I do this?

it does NOT have a txt extension, you did something wrong under windows.

And note that you can't install VMWare. VMWare is a company, not a product... which product are you actually referring to?

Right you are, it's VMware Workstation I'm trying to install. The .txt extension surprised the heck out of me, but hey, Linux is new to me and somehow I managed to install it from that .txt extension the other day. Today though I'm having trouble repeating what was a very convoluted task.

Perhaps I can change the extension, but to what and then how would I proceed?

Looks like I might just download it again, but from Linux this time.

ok, figured it out, for some reason windows changed the file extension, should have been .bundle. I changed that and all's good! Thanks for cluing me in that the file extension was a problem, I had no idea.
