How to install VLC Player in linux?

You need to check that a universe mirror is listed in your /etc/apt/sources.list file.

% sudo apt-get update

% sudo apt-get install vlc

Looks around, nope no 'universe'.

Dear craigevil

You need to check that a universe mirror is listed in your /etc/apt/sources.list file. You just go that sources.list by click and check that box "Community-maintained Open Soruce software(Universe) then close the "software sources" dialog box!

lol you didn't get the joke. Only Ubuntu and distros based on it use 'universe'

There are only a thousand or so distros that do not do things the way Ubuntu does.
