How to install USB Nic (not wireless) for Linux

Hi All,

I just purchased a usb nic (not wireless) for my laptop to connect it to the internet because my PCMCIA card die. I figure its cheap and is plug and plug in XP. It came with the drivers for linux. When I boot up my laptop, it didn't detect it so no IP was obtained. How do I go about installing the driver for this USB device.

Thanks for all you help.
