how to install proxychains

Hello everyone

I wanna install proxychains 2.1 in fedora 2. But there are an error and many warnings when I make proxychains-2.1.tar.gz package.

./configure
make
acinclude.m4:36: warning: underquoted definition of AC_FIND_FILE
run info '(automake)Extending aclocal'
or see http://sources.redhat.com/automake/a...ding%20aclocal
acinclude.m4:53: warning: underquoted definition of KDE_FIND_PATH
acinclude.m4:105: warning: underquoted definition of KDE_MOC_ERROR_MESSAGE
acinclude.m4:122: warning: underquoted definition of AC_PATH_QT_MOC
........
........
aclocal.m4:550: error: m4_defn: undefined macro: _m4_divert_diversion
autoconf/lang.m4:172: AC_LANG_RESTORE is expanded from...
aclocal.m4:550: the top level
autom4te: /usr/bin/m4 failed with exit status: 1
make: *** [configure] Error 1

If anyone has an idea about the problem I would be bloody happy.

Thanks!

I have the same problem within Slackware 10. And to make matters worse, proxychains' website provides no help for this shit.

solution

It was taken from proxychains public forum
http://proxychains.sourceforge.net/f...light=autom4te

and it works for me:

the automake/autoconf used with the tool is too old, for compiling these steps should do:

go to the subdir "proxychains"

gcc -O0 -g -DVERSION=\"1.1\" -shared -o libproxychains.so libproxychains.c core.c

gcc -O0 -g -DVERSION=\"1.1\" -o proxychains main.c

then copy the file libproxychains.so to /usr/lib dir
copy the file proxychains to /usr/bin dir
and copy proxychains.conf to /etc/ dir

The compile didn't work for me; furthermore, autom4te give the same error with older versions of proxychains.

I'm also very hesitant to run commands like he suggested when he provides no explanation behind it. If I remember it correctly, he (the poster) had no clue as to how it worked; it's just what his buddy told him to do.
