how to install linux in intel DG965RY with 250GB SATA HD

Failed to install FD 6, FD 5, RH 9, RH Enter., SUSE in intel DG965RY mother board with 250GB Hard disk.
Upon selecting an installation method of "Local CDROM", the installer reported the erroor "No drive found"...
I get into the BIOS. under the ADvanced tab, Drive configuration,..I set " Configure SATA as " to "AHCI" (not IDE)... then I typed the " linux all-generic-ide pci=nommconf" and press enter for installation with FD 5 and RH 9 and still it unable to detect HD..but give an option to skip CDROM drive.....
with this setup windows XP failed to start...

I want to setup dual boot in this duaL Core system

please help me....give me some solution

regards

Am I getting this right?

Did you try to install off the internet, or from Windows, or did you set the boot sequence in the bios to boot from CD/DVD before HDD and re-boot with CD in the drive? The latter is how you install off CD. With sata HDD, you should try Fedora 6, not Red Hat 9.

To get Windows back without installing Linux you need to repair the MBR, follow instructions in the first post here:

Update your BIOS to make sure you have the latest version, then try loading your modules manually with the manual=1 option when booting from CD. Make sure you load the correct module for your SATA controler. Then try installing it. If doesn't work, give more detail on your BIOS settings.
Good Luck

Make sure FC6 supports your SATA controller, and try loading the modules manually at boot.

Fedora Core 6 had no problems with my Intel SATA controllers and installs with ease. Does FC6 tell you that it has problems detecting the HDD?. What type of mother board do you have, more specific, what chip set does the mother board have?. If it is an OEM computer, you can probably find out what it is by going to the manufacturer's web site and look for software & driver downloads to get the specs on the computer, mentioning which computer (specs) here also would be very helpful.

Pass "irqpoll" along with "all-generic-ide pci=nommconf". Also add these(except irqpoll) to the end of the 'kernel' line in grub.conf

As for the XP thing, once installation is done, change the bios option back to ide and then totally change from native to legacy mode.
