Hi,

use your package manager... Eg search for jdk, and install the corresponding package. If you want more specific instructions (eg the actual package name), you'll need to tell us which version of Ubuntu you are running.

Hi,

AFAIK there is no such version as 12.01. Perhaps you mean 12.10.

Also, did you try the steps I suggested? I did, and it seems that the package you are looking for (assuming Ubuntu 12.10) is "default-jdk". Do you know how to use your package manager?

In Terminal

Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install openjdk-6-jdk
or

Download synaptic package manager using

Code:
sudo apt-get install synaptic
In Dash Home(i.e left top button in ubuntu unity) search synaptic

In synaptic, search jdk
and install the package
