Why???
the antique telnet is very VERY VERY insecure
and should only be used for a few things

and installing it AS a service on the SECURITY central freeBSD is bad idea

use SSH

Dear John,
Just wondering, can I firewall my computer with port 23,
and just inside my LAN can access this telnet server.
I think this can bypass the security issue.
I want to run my obsolete software to see the logics, user interface etc
Thanks
Jack

You can use the FreeBSD firewall for choosing what can and can not connect to your system. Telnet is generally installed by default on FreeBSD, so no need to install anything.

Why do you need to install it under Cygwin? native servers exist for every operating system out there.
