how to install firefox 3.0.1


downloaded .tgz file to ~
unpacked .tgz
left with three files:
install
the .tgz file and
usr
in the install file found:
cd usr/lib; rm-rf firefox
cd usr/lib; ln -sf firefox-3.0.1 firefox
cd usr/bin; rm -rf firefox
cd usr/bin ln -sf /usr/lib/firefox-3.0.1/firefox/firefox
accomplished these commands then what ?????
how do i create a shortcut for the Desktop and to what directory?
tried make install but got "nothing to be done for install"

did you get a slackware package? run installpkg [PACKAGE_NAME].tgz on it

Swiftweasel is nice too, although I can't seem to get the bloody thing to find ALL of my plugins (but hey, that's what forums are for, right?).

The "file" usr is actually a directory. Look in it to find everything.

The directions on the Mozilla site have you just linking to the firefox installation in your home directory; I chose to move all of that stuff into /usr/lib and run it from there.

thanks, the installpkg thing works perfect, seamless!!!!
necessitates an upgrade of flash, but see "flash with firefox in slackware 12.0"
it seems that, as usual, this forum is more like family than "real" family ....
