How to include CONFIG_PHONE as a module??

I have redhhat 7.1 with kernel version 2.2.4.
There were two directories in /usr/src, 1) linux-2.4 2)linux-2.4.2
I run "ln -n /usr/src/linux-2.4 /usr/src/linux"
it created third directory in /usr/src named "linux" .But also gave the following warning
"ln: '/usr/src/linux': making a hard link to a symbolic link is not acceptable."
How to eliminate this warning?
Now i cd to /usr/src/linux
I run "make menuconfig" and added the linux telephony support and not added Quicknet Internet Linejack/Phonejack support in Telephony support.
Then i gave "make dep" in /usr/src/linux.
Now when i try to install some linux driver of phone jack, it gave me the following error
configure: error: Change kernel to include CONFIG_PHONE as a module rather than built-in to kernel.
Can anybody please tell me how can i change my kernel to include CONFIG_PHONE as a module??
Thanks and regards
Peter
