How to have Puppy 5.2.8 make a "run action"?
 

I note that my Linux Puppy 5.2.8 distro advises me to create a "run action" for running files of this type (application/x-ms-dos-executable) on my HP Mini, but the process seems to be a multi-step affair. Can someone guide me along in having Puppy actually open and run the following file at this location on my HD:
" /sda/FoxPro_2.6/FPW26/FOXPROW.exe " without the quotes of course?

1) this sounds like rox filer. please read rox filer documentation (enter 'man rox' in terminal). one hint: it supports drag'n'drop in almost all situations.

2) the .exe ending of your file suggests that it is a windows executable; you might want to install WINE to run it under linux, then the run action will be to "open with wine windows program loader" or similar.

I don't think Visual FoxPro runs very well under Linux.
If it were to run, it would be under Wine.
2.6 is a very old version and you would also need to check that any required libraries are available - and that the licence allows it..

Many thanks for your comments so far. In the meantime, I have continued with my experimentation. For whatever reasons, I have no desire to use Visual FoxPro, but much prefer working with my old FoxPro 2.6!

Using a Live Puppy Linux 5.2.8 (Lucid 5.2.8), I have used its "GET" icon to download WINE, which installed itself quite quickly. I then went to the location on my HD which has a folder for all my FoxPro-related files. The nomenclature was a bit different but the
right one turned out to be z:\mnt\sda5\fpw26\data\palaccnt\

Holding my breath, I single-clicked on the icon for FoxProw.exe and Lo and Behold the program's splash screen came up as usual -- followed by the FoxPro Command window which brought me a huge sigh of relief! I then tried out some of the program files which I had created in the past. They too worked, albeit FoxPro was a bit confused with the
locations for finding various file references -- that does not bother me at all right now.

Why? Because I have just answered a different problem that has been plaguing me for months now. The problem was that my trusty HP Mini had developed a dislike for simply opening the FoxPro application as it had faithfully done in the past. All I was getting was a brief view of the FoxPro splash screen and nothing else. No Command window
and consequently, no way of using FoxPro at all!

The lesson learned was that with a different OS, i.e. Puppy 5.2.8 fortified with WINE (pardon the pun), my beloved FoxPro 2.6 was up and running again. This must mean that the culprit of my original problem was not FoxPro itself, but rather the Windows OS.

Now I have to figure out how the best approach for re-installing my Windows XP Pro SP3 on my favorite computer, the HP Mini, without loosing all sorts of data and programs that reside on its drive C:

And that is probably best tackled by closing up this posting as "Solved" and opening a new post for my next task. However, I still do not know how to have Puppy make a "run action" and I think that it would be a useful thing to get to know what steps are involved as there was little by way of explanation when that piece of "advice" showed up when I first asked Puppy to open the Foxprow.exe icon on my HD. Can someone please explain the process for creating the right type of file for Puppy to use?
