Question How to get rsync to check one location but write to another

Normally if I want to since files from one location to another I just do

rsync -arv --progress src-path dst-path.

But if the dst-path is over dial-up the transfer is estimating a few days to transfer. Would be easy to make a DVD of the changed files and ship it onsite.

So is there a way of getting rsync to compare but write to a third location?

That way I could build "patch" disks?

Keep the storage at the location from where you are working, then burn the disk and ship.

Not sure how this helps. Still need to figure out what's different from A-B since the entire disk wouldn't fit on a DVD. (only the changes would)

After stumbling upon the --compare-dest I found my answer:

rsync -arv --exclude-from /mnt/bt_store/exclude.txt --compare-dest=/mnt/files/ rsync://silver-dragon-vpn/files/* /mnt/bt_store/Stage-silver-dragon/files/

Now I can create patch disks of only the files that have changed.
