Open the file with the default music player (rythmbox), it will find and install codecs for you.

Or the other way is to install gst-plugins good, bad and ugly from system;administration;synaptic package manager

To install all codecs, Flash, Java, etc., etc., open the terminal and type:

Code:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
Cheers

And if you haven't found a suitable video player yet, I recommend VLC Media player. It plays all video formats. Other players are for example: MPlayer, Xine, GXine
