How to enable shockwave plug-in?
 

I just downloaded shockwave 6 from their website and installed it into my Mozilla directory as the installation directed.... but i still don't find my plug-in enabled in my Mozilla browser? How do you do that?
I'd really appreciate your help

I would be curious about that myself, since shockwave is not supported in Linux. You downloaded it from their website? I'm looking at the macromedia site now and they have MacOS and Windows versions only. That's why it won't work

did you copy it into mozilla*/plugins ??

you can check your pluggins mozilla-help-about plugins.

If you want to play shockwave files then you're out of luck. Most things just use Flash which is supported. Go to http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/linux.html for instructions on how to install that.

sorry, i mean i downloaded the macromedia flash which is listed on the link you gave me :-> http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/linux.html .

I tried searching other threads and the rpm search but can't find the rpm for libstdc++ for Mandrake 9.2. How can i check if the libstdc++ is installed? What must i do now?

I read the readme file that came with the installation and it said that after the installation, the plug-in will be in the Mozilla browser but i can't seem to find it.... how do i copy into the Mozilla plug-in and which file must i copy?

OK, do this:
ls ~/.mozilla
Is there a directory named "plugins?". If you haven't installed any other plugins, there probably won't be, so make it (mkdir ~/.mozilla/plugins). Then copy the files "libflashplayer.so" and "flashplayer.xpt" from where you decompressed the Flash plugin to that directory.
Then run mozilla from the command line and see if any errors are displayed when it loads.

i checked... and those files are originally in the directory already.... what could be the problem then?

OK, make sure that the files are not in ~/.mozilla/plugin, but ~/.mozilla/plugins (since the "plugin" directory is often there by default, but the plugins need to be installed into "plugins") and then run it from a terminal and post any output.

exactly.... the original plugins folder was there by default.... so do i do the opposite and create a plugin folder instead?

Hmm. I though I had it the right way round, but try that, and then post any messages when mozilla loads

it's weird.... mozilla loads as usual even though i copied the files from "plugins" to "plugin" and deleted "plugins".... the plug-ins are still not loaded.... i really wonder what could be the problem...

so.... do you guys know any solution to this?

I know there was an issue with gcc 3.2 based distros. The pluggin just wont load in those distros with the package distributed by macromedia. Try this:
