how to disable screen-saver

Hello,
I am using "Puredyne" distro, that is Ubuntu.
After some time I've been not typing any key the screen-saver starts, but it is malfunctioning because it gradually blanks the screen and does not allow me to take control of the system again.
So I ask you how to disable this screen-saver or enable another one that works.
thanks in advance
