how to disable rendering in KDE root window?

Using torsmo or conky on a KDE Desktop requires to disable rendering in the root window. Otherwise the desktop icons will disappear if the program is started.

I have spend about one hour for finding this option but I can't. Anybody here around who knows how to disable the rendering (kcontrol and then?)

Thanks in advance,
micha
