How to create smaller PDF files? OpenOffice or Abiword generated a large one.

Well, in Windows I have this program called PDFCreator that can convert a .doc file into a PDF file with an amazingly small size.

In Linux, I tried Abiword and OpenOffice, but the file they made was much larger than the one from PDFCreator. For instance, the same file results in a 10KB in windows while in Linux it's around 40Kb.

Is there any way to configure OO and Abiword to make smaller files? Or is there any alternative program for doing this job efficiently?

Thank you very much

One of the problems might be that OOo's conversion from doc already makes the file bigger. If that's the cause, you can try to create the document from scratch in OOo and next convert it.

Not sure if this is the cause and the solution. Further you can obviously play with the PDF settings when converting.

Try "export as PDF" from the file menu. If your document has images you can reduce the quality of the JPEGs and thus the file size there.
