how to crash X as a user(Mldonkey warning)

This might only happen on my system but i though I should warn folks. When using Mldonkey i clicked the preview button with a incomplete downloaded movie clip highlighted.AND THE SCREEN WENT BLACK.logged out/in and restarted but x would not start no matter what.Looked at the x config file in a terminal and it was a mess i dont know enough to fix things like this but i remember what it looked like and there seemed to be alot missing.Had to reinstall to get things right again.I am to much of a newbie to know what happened. But thought everyone should be warned.

don't fear the penguins
fear the preview button!
