how to change keymap for x


hi

im using slackware 9.1 i set the keymap during installation but this only works in the command line as soon as i start x it goes to american style

i need it set for uk keyboards

how do i change it thanks

Hi,
Open a text editor and open the file /etc/X11/XF86Config. In the section "Core keyboard's InputDevice section" you will find a line that looks like this:

Option "XkbLayout" "us"

All you have to do is change the "us" to whatever keyboard layout you want. In your case you should replace it with the string "uk".

Hi DrGnome!!!

You've to edit your XF86Config file located at /etc/X11. Find the section "Input Devices" and keyboard there. When you find that section, include the following line:

Option "XkbLayout" "se"

The last two characters ("se") changes your Keybord for a swedish layout. Find the correct characters for your keyboard. Linux is case sensitive, so make sure to type upper(lower) cases correctly. Make a backup of your XF86Config, just in case .

When done, restart X..

oops nalg0rath beat me . But I bet he uses the same keyboard layout as me, lol
