How to add desktop icon that launches program?

Hi all,
I'm running RH 9.0 Gnome and would like to add an icon that launches a script.
All my script does is launch a bunch of xterms which themselves run other scripts, like this:

#!/bin/bash

xterm -e ./eth.script &
xterm -e ./serial.script &
xterm -e ./secondary.memory.script &
xterm -e ./monitor.script &
xterm -e ./parallel.script &

The problem is the xterms open, but then close immediately. When typed out from a terminal, the windows stay open and execute their respective scripts, so there's no problem with the subscripts. I've tried "exec", "suspend", not putting the last xterm in bg, with no luck. I don't know Gnome at all, what option am I missing from the "Add launcher" option when adding an icon that will keep the windows open?
Thanks!

you can try adding nohup before the script name in the command field. I've never tried it with a script, just programs.

Thanks, I appreciate the suggestion. Unfortunately the windows all exit immediately.
I'm logged-in as root, and these scripts are just echoing stuff to /dev files, if that makes any difference...

Thumbs up

Found it. Adding the "-hold" option to xterm holds the window open even if the parent shell exits.
