how to add cd-rom, dvd-rom, floppy, hard disk icons on gnome desktop?

hi,

i've been into this over quite some time, and i can't figure out how to properly add device (floppy, optical drive, hard drive) icons on a gnome desktop...

whenever i right click on the desktop, i can't find any option that will make me add those icons that i need...

how do i do it properly?

Just right click the desired application/device/partition and left click 'Make Link'. That will place a link in the same directory. Now right click the link and click 'cut'. Paste it on the desktop and there you are!

the make link option is not enabled

You need to install cd paranoia, I accidently found out about this when i tried to install dropline gnome, it couldn't install without cdparanoia, so i installed it , booted up gnome and all of a sudden i saw that home icon and all, so you need to install cdparanoia.

what about the floppy?

What do you mean what about the floppy?
If you want to see it's icon you need to mount a floppy.

i mean, how will you place it on the desktop even though its unmounted...
