I needed the upgraded version of gcc on my laptop. So I downloaded the source and compiled. Well, I guess I shouldn't use the present tense because it's still compiling as it has been for the last 10 hours. Now granted my laptop is 265MgH, but, seriously, 10 hours? My kernel didn't take that long to compile. I would've stopped the process except that the command line keeps spitting out new text all the time. It's definately doing something. I don't want to stop it and then learn that these things usually take forever to compile and then have to do everything again.

Has anyone else had anything take this long before?

I've only compiled GCC (3.2) once, but if I remember correctly, it did take a while on my P4. 2.4GHz machine. I would not be surprised it ends up taking you a whole day.

Thank you for saying that. I was almost about to cut it off and try to figure out the problem. Now I'm going to leave it overnight. Geez, mine is seriously going to take at least 10X longer than yours. That just puts into perspective how much my processor sucks. Oh well, $100 laptop you get what you pay for.
