How in the **** do you use RECODE?

The **** stands for "heck" by the way...

Seriously, I've spent HOURS reading all of the docs but I can't figure out how to do the most basic thing.

I have a folder full of Japanese UTF-8 docs which I need to convert to EUC-JP. But how?

If do this:
recode euc-jp mydirectory/*

I get a bunch of errors like this:
recode: mydirectory/myfile.php failed: Invalid input in step `EUC-JP..CHAR'

How in the heck do you use this thing?

Try -f option, I mean:
Code:
recode -f utf-8..euc-jp mydirectory/*
