How do you install new programs?
 

I have no idea how to install new programs that I download from the internet, etc?? Files are often in a .tar.gz or .lsm format, and I have no idea what that is? Is there a way to install new programs through KDE?

I have SUSE Linux 8 and KDE3. Thanks!!!

Never seen or installed a .lsm type file. Usually the most common files to install are either the source which is the tar.gz or RPM's.. which is the RedHat Package Manager type file.

Yep, I believe that Suse is RPM based.

RPM through GUI?
 

Can an RPM install be done through the KDE GUI, or does it have to be done thru the command line? I am not yet that familiar with the command line stuff...

Sure it can be done if you have kpackage installed.
